Friendly Reminders:
ABSENCE AND TARDIES:
If a student is absent from school, please call our office before 9:30 am at 344-3270. If you know in advance that your child will be absent, please let us know so we can record this information in our files.
If you would like to pick up homework, call before noon to request make-up work from the teacher. Students who arrive late to school must stop In the office to receive a tardy slip.
IF WE NEED TO CONTACT YOU:
It is vital that the school know where you can be located during the day, please be sure a current phone number is listed along with two or three reliable alternate contacts. Also, notify the school of any changes in phone number or addresses during the school year.
STUDENT CHECK OUT PROCEDURE:
On occasion, parents will need to check out their students from school prior to the end of the day. To avoid interrupting the learning process, we prefer that appointments, such as medical, not be made during the school day. However, if a student must be checked out from school, please send a note with your student notifying the teacher of the early dismissal. Parents will need to come to the office to check their child out. They will be asked to sign the child out and the office staff will then call the classroom for the student, who will then be sent to the office. Anyone other than a parent who comes to pick up a student must have their name listed on the emergency information card or a note from the parent giving permission. Students will not be allowed to leave with anyone who is not listed on this card or without written permission. PLEASE NOTE If office staff is unfamiliar with whom you are, you will be asked to show photo ID. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding of this safety measure.
MEDICATION AT SCHOOL:
Whenever possible, medications should be scheduled during non school hours. For those students who need either prescription or over the counter medication during school hours, must have written authorization from a parent accompanied by a signed Physician’s Form indicating the type of medication and dosage. All prescribed and nonprescription medication must be properly labeled and in the original container with the student’s name and dosage clearly marked. Forms are available in the office and a new forms must to be filled out each school year.
ILLNESS:
In order to help reduce the spread of illness, please keep your child home if he or she is experiencing nausea, vomiting, fever or rash. If your child has been ill, please do not send him or her to school until a normal temperature has been achieved for at least 24 hours. Please be sure to notify the school office with the day or days he or she will be absent.
HEAD LICE:
We would like to take this opportunity to discuss a common situation that may occur at any time with young children. The condition is head lice, and anyone can get them. Head lice is easily transmitted from child to child, and can be spread through any close personal contact. If a child is found to have head lice, it is not an indication of an unclean home, it only means that he or she has been around someone else who has head lice.
In recent years, head lice have been troublesome pests for some students and their families. Jefferson County Health and Human Services have trained and assisted volunteers in our school to deal with this issue.
All Jefferson County schools have a No Nit policy. It is important that we do all we can to bring head lice under control to decrease absenteeism and promote a healthy school environment. Thank you for your cooperation.
For more detailed information and helpful solutions please visit The National Pediculosis Association, Inc. at : www.headlice.org
TRANSPORTATION:
Transportation will be provided to all Chimacum Creek Students with the exception of those students living in Chimacum Creek Estates and B&R Trailer Court. Occasionally a student may need to ride another bus for daycare purposes. Please send a note with your child stating date and destination and have them come into the office to receive a bus pass. If you do not know the number of the bus your child is to ride you can call the transportation office, 732-4040
CAFETERIA:
Eating a healthy breakfast and lunch makes for better learning and school participation. Our district has a kitchen on site that prepares these meals for students who wish to participate. Menus for breakfast and lunch are sent home each month. The cost for breakfast is $1.00 and $1.75 for lunch. Those families who would like an application for Free/Reduced Priced Meals may pick up an application from the office or you may contact Shellie Friedrich with any questions you may have at 732-4090 ext. 281
VISITORS AND VOLUNTEERS:
In order to ensure our students’ safety, all visitors, including parents and volunteers, must come to the office for a visitor’s pass and sign in when arriving and sign out before leaving the campus. Students are never to be taken from the campus without first checking them out from the office. Volunteers are an integral part of the Chimacum School District. We are fortunate to have a hardworking and wonderful group of parents and community members giving their time in many various ways. If you have questions about becoming a volunteer in the Chimacum School District, please call the district office at 385-3922 for more information.

Parents needing to pick up their student after school may wait in their cars in the drop off lane. If you wish to pick up your child(ren) and must leave your car unattended, please park in the designated parking area and wait in front of the school to greet your child. Your child will be escorted by their teacher out of the building. For your child’s safety, please refrain from going directly to the classroom to pick up your child.
